It seems hard to believe that in this day and age, a time where we have become so smart with science and technology, that we need to debate and educate the principles of freedom and Liberty. I know I may be preaching to some who read this, but to the rest who think it's no big deal or to the people who never took a second to think about it, whether you like it or not, you will be effected by the loss of Liberty. Very few times in human history have people had the opportunity to obtain Liberty and all to often in history people give it away for the illusion of safety. In a speech to the American Legion convention, Adlai Stevenson said, "The tragedy of our day is the climate of fear in which we live, and fear breeds repression. Too often sinister threats to the bill of rights, to freedom of the mind, are concealed under the patriotic cloak, of anti-communism." James Spader (as character Alan Shore) in the television show 'Boston Legal' pointed out, that today's threats to the bill of rights are concealed under the patriotic cloak, of anti-terrorism.

As we should know, Benjamin Franklin said, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." I believe everyone deserve Liberty, but should you be so naive to give it up then you deserve the consequences. I prefer to live in dangerous freedom than safe slavery. You may say by obeying laws that violate the Bill Of Rights is not slavery but is keeping us safe. Who is it keeping safe? Why am I forced to accept this so called security? Isn't slavery defined as submission to a dominating influence? If so, than my previous statement is true and the opposite of Liberty is slavery.

I know it is hard to believe that fellow humans have evil intentions. Unfortunately, these very people that are in public office that scream "terrorism" are the very people that are gaining from your fear. Remember, fear breeds repression and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The more you are in fear, the more obedient of a slave you will be, and the more power and control they will gain.
